The Forest Grove Police Department is now offering free handgun locks thanks to a partnership with Project Childsafe.
Locks are available at the Forest Grove Police station located at 2102 Pacific Avenue, next to the library, during normal business hours. Locks will also be available at the FGPD's regular booth at the First Wednesday markets that run May thru October. Due to limited supplies, community members are asked to take no more than two.
Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearms owners by distributing key safety education messages and free gun locking devices (firearm safety kits). The program is supported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association of the firearms industry.
The proper storing of firearms is vital to protecting children and adults by preventing unintentional shootings, suicide by gun, and gun theft. The Forest Grove Police Department urges all residents with firearms to always practice safe and responsible storage.
