Forest Grove Loop Trail
The City of Forest Grove adopted the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan in 2016 which outlined the concept for the Forest Grove Loop Trail. The Forest Grove Loop Trail Master Plan will develop community-supported plans that will form the basis for the preparation of construction documents when the trail is developed. The Forest Grove Loop Trail Master Plan will include two proposed segments:
- a northern segment with the David Hill Trail Corridor and
- a southern segment with the Gales Creek Trail Corridor.
The two proposed segments, along with the existing Highway 47 trail, will continue to fill gaps to create a loop trail around the City and provide safe, and affordable connections for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users.
David Hill Trail Corridor (Northern Segment)
The David Hill Trail corridor will be located along the northern and western edge of the City and connect Forest Glen Park to Thatcher Park, Forest Grove HS, a proposed new neighborhood park, and the Highway 47 Trail. The David Hill Trail will be 2.1 miles in length and approximately 5.1 acres* in area. The City will acquire land and/or easements to develop the segment of the multi-use regional trail.
Gales Creek Trail Corridor (Southern Segment)
The Gales Creek Trail corridor will be located along the southern edge of the City boundary, connecting the B Street Trailhead to Kyle Park, Knox Ridge Park, Reuter Farm Park, and Forest Glen Park. The Gales Creek Trail corridor will be 3.1 miles in length and approximately 7.5 acres* in area. As in the David Hill Trail Corridor, the City will acquire land and/or easements to develop this segment of the multi-use regional trail.
* Trail acreage is calculated based on an assumed 20-foot corridor
Methodology
In conducting existing conditions assessments, the following methods were used:
- Literature search identifying existing conditions and factors within the trail corridor including those potentially impacting trail development within the corridor.
- Review of prior plans, studies, technical reports, and other evaluations provided by project partners and participating jurisdictions.
- Review of GIS-based information and other existing mapping and aerial photography.
- Limited field observations.
