Newspaper Obituary Index

Each entry contains the following information:

• Last name
• First name, including nicknames or aliases
• Date of birth (if mentioned)
• Place of birth (if mentioned)
• Date of death
• Place of death (if mentioned)
• Date, page number, and section for the obituary or death notice

New entries are added to the index weekly, and the entire list will be updated every 2-3 months. If you don’t see a name, contact the Reference Department and we can double-check for you. Be sure to provide full first and last name and the date of death.

• The index is searchable (Control + F for PC, Command + F for Mac).
• Since the index covers the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, years are entered as four-digit numbers.
• Years prior to 1900 are preceded by "C".
• Commas have been eliminated between cities and states to save space.
• Standard US postal abbreviations are used for states, Canadian provinces, and some countries.
• Square brackets - [  ] - surround dates that are implied.
• Noted spelling errors are acknowledged with [sic].
• Dates not given in full or implied are indicated by “c”.
• Nicknames or aliases follow full given name in quotes.
• Titles, such as DR, FR, SR, are not indicated in this index.
• Names such as VANDEHEY, VANDYKE, etc., have been written as printed without regard to any standardization.
